WITHERING FIG LEAVES OR ABUNDANT LIVING

Are you struggling along in your Christian life with (Genesis 3:7) the withered fig leaves of self-effort and missing out on (John 10:10) the abundant Life Jesus came to give us?  The abundant Life Jesus gives, enables us to fulfill the purpose for which God created us.  The abundant life of Jesus is the very life of eternal God.  Legalism is self-effort and is built of fig leaves that wither and die.  True Christianity is built of abundant, overflowing, victorious Resurrection Life.

David said (Psalms 23:6) that he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Of course, we know that he was referring to the Lord’s house in heaven, where we will live eternally.  But the Lord has another house, a temporary house on earth.  My body which houses me is (1 Corinthians 3:16) the temple of God, the house where God lives as long as I am on earth.  This brings me serious consideration about what goes on in this house of the Lord and issues from it.  My heavenly Landlord has leased this house to me for His set time and His set purpose.  God’s house (Matthew 21:13) is to be a house of prayer. All things that have been promised for me must be expressed in my prayers for others in my connection with the Lord Jesus Christ.  So (Job 42:10) I must be praying for others as long as I live in God’s temporary house on earth.  In this house do all my thoughts, words, deeds, motives, attitudes and purposes glorify the Owner?  What furnishings and decorations adorn His house?  The doors of my house are firmly locked against my three enemies, the world, the flesh and the devil.  The doors are always open to Christian fellowship and godly counsel and instruction.

In this house I spend much time in meditating on God’s Word and listening to the Holy Spirit as He continually reveals to me and unfolds deeper aspects of the never ending treasures of the living, history-making Word of the eternal God, which is alive with the very breath of God.  The Bible is so up-to-date that it is timeless.  If you do not believe and trust what God says (Romans 1:25) you are calling God a liar!  That is both terrifyingly fearful and extremely dangerous.  Rebellion is as (1 Samuel 15:23) the sin of witchcraft.  God gives us the will, our free-will choice (Genesis 2:16-17),  God gives us the power to obey Him or to disobey Him.  All choices have consequences and we are accountable for those consequences.  (C.H. Spurgeon) “You can’t have Jesus without serving Him and we serve Him by serving others.”  I don’t understand everything that God sends or allows in my life. but I do know that fire destroys chaff and refines gold.  My life is hidden (Colossians 3:3) with Christ in God.  Hidden together with CHRIST in GOD means that I have 2-fold double security.  My thanks to the Lord always for everything, no matter what, is because of my assurance that He is in control.  I must maintain continual gratitude and an attitude of adoring worship and holy fear in my deepening relationship of unbroken communion with my Sovereign God.

Before the Rapture our bodies will go temporarily to the grave.  For Christians the grave is actually a change room.  Our person, our soul and spirit will never experience death.  Our glorified bodies (Job  19:25-26), Philippians 3:21) will rejoice endlessly in vibrant health, timeless beauty expert intelligence and continually discovering (1 Corinthians 2:9) what God has prepared for us.

(Oswald Chambers) “Service for Jesus is not what we do for Him but what we are to Him.  If I am passionately devoted to Jesus, no matter how others treat me, I will be steadfastly loyal to Jesus.”  God’s words are sweet (Jeremiah 15:16) and as I eat them, they are the rejoicing of my heart and the nourishing of my soul.  God’s Word is vital to my life every day as my constant and essential diet for spiritual growth.  As I look back over the years of my life with consideration and gratitude, I can see God’s perfect wisdom and His perfect timing in everything He has done and continues to do in my life and each and every day.

(Dr. Jeremiah) points out that we obey the greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) to love God passionately and supremely, by (Matthew 25:40) loving our neighbours.  As we love our world-wide neighbours we will obey (Matthew 28:19-20) the Great Commission to make the gospel known to our world-wide neighbours.  It is evident that all God’s requirements, declared in the Law and through the prophets are summed up in - -

                      the Great Commandment

                      and the Great Commission

Our God is so wonderful and beautiful that He meets the needs in many lives through our love for Him, which is His gift to us.  We could not love if (1 John 4:10 He had not first loved us.  The beauty and goodness of the Triune God is beyond human comprehension and words to describe.

From a treasured old hymn - - -

             Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,

I behold Thee as Thou art,

And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,

             Satisfies my heart

Golden bells and (Exodus 28:34) pomegranates -  for every step they took there were golden bells to sound a spiritual message and pomegranates to represent the spiritual nourishment for a fruitful life.  Let us use wisely and rejoice in the golden bells and pomegranates with godly wisdom every day.
