God can trust us and we become His friends.
I know I’ll never be a songwriter but sometimes my overflowing heart demands expression of worship in words. So, I wrote this little song.
I am sitting often at the feet of Jesus,
Drinking in His wonderful Words,
My love for Him, my trust in Him grow with
Adoration for my glorious Lord.
Worship can continue in unbroken communion with God - communion sometimes wordless. The Lord said (Hosea 14:2) Take with you words and come, and often we do for many different reasons. But sometimes we can’t find words adequate to express our growing wonder and gratitude. No matter what we are doing, even if it requires our full attention, we can still be in constant touch with Jesus. As I’ve often proved when, right in the middle of something, the Lord gives me a very helpful and timely reminder or idea to assist me. We can’t faithfully keep in step with Jesus if we don’t constantly keep in touch with Jesus.
(Oswald Chambers) - “The thing to do is to maintain a vital relationship with Jesus Christ and see that nothing interferes with that.” Lord, teach me Thy ways (Micah 4:2) so that I may walk in Thy paths.
Why is there so much disease, plagues, disasters, cruelty in our world? (Pastor B. McBride) – “We live in a world where creation is raging against its Creator.” Because they (John 3:19) love the darkness, they throw off (Psalms 2:1-3) moral shackles, all wise restraints. Because they hate the light, when the Light of the World came, they plotted to destroy that Light. They thought they had succeeded when Jesus was crucified and buried. God scorns (Psalms 2:4, 6-9) their futile attempts and long ago proclaimed His King, Who is the Light and He will reign in righteousness forever. God uses the very things they thought would put out the Light to offer salvation and freedom from sin. God will give them up to what they want. Those who deliberately continue to choose darkness will end up with the eternal darkness of eternal death. Never another sunrise, never the least glimmer of light or hope. Just solitary dark – darker – darkest and unending torment.
We can see the beauty of God revealed in His marvelous creation all around us and of course all humans are part of His creation. But because of the Resurrection of Jesus, we Christians are His new creations. Can anyone see the beauty of God revealed in us (2 Corinthians 5:17) His new creations? Every time we have a meal the wonders of creation appear on our plates. Wherever a Christian is, shouldn’t the wonders of the new creation appear in that area?
Like most of you, I have specific prayer times and requests for asking, seeking (Matthew 7:7) knocking. I also talk to and listen to the Lord all day and through the night when awake, so the loving contact is never broken. I will lie down (Palms 4:8) and sleep in peace because the Lord is my safety. When I awake (Psalms 139:18) I am still with You. Night and morning (Psalms 119:147-148) I will praise You.
Abraham believed God (James 2:23) and was called God’s friend. How can we become God’s friends? By believing Him. Pastor G. Campbell Morgan preached during the First and Second World Wars and some members of his congregation were on the Titanic. He said – “A strong person is one who has a firm conviction about one thing, a conviction that can never be changed or shaken.” To worry is (Matthew 25:18, Matthew 25:24-25) to slander God, but faith is the absolute assurance that everything God says (Mark 13:31) is sure and certain history, which may or may not have yet happened. His every Word is alive with the breath of God and complete with self-fulfilling power. When we fully, whole-heartedly trust God, then He can trust us and we become His friends.
I have never had such (Isaiah 66:2) trembling awe at God’s Word as I’m experiencing recently. Consider with me the vast scope and a few of the stupendous facts which build an established future for all humans – both the saved and the lost.
- Matthew 16:18, Acts 2:4) – The birth of the Church of Jesus Christ.
John 3:36) – Outright rejection of salvation through Jesus
2 Peter 2:22) – Dogs return to their vomit and washed pigs wallow in the mire.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) – Rapture of the Church
Isaiah 33:17) – We will see the King in His beauty
Matthew 24:21) – The Great Tribulation
Isaiah 19:24-25) – Israel, Egypt and Assyria will form a Messianic League and be a blessing in the midst of the earth
Revelation 11:15) – Jesus puts down all authority and He is supremely King of kings and Lord of lords.
Genesis 1:6-8. 2 Peter 3:5-7, 2 Peter 3:12) – Our present sky and earth, which were formed out of water, will be destroyed by fire
Revelation 21:1-2) – A new heaven, a new earth, a new Jerusalem
Revelation 20:10, Revelation 21:27) – No Satan, no sin
Seek the Book of the Lord (Isaiah 34:16) and read. I urge myself and you to read the Bible carefully, searchingly – ponder, think, meditate. See that it is not just about – ‘I received Jesus as my Saviour so I’m going to heaven when I die’. That is a wonderful truth but there is so much more in God’s big picture. I think the Lord wants us to absorb His Word more and more until its principles invade every part of us so that we’ll be fitted and equipped for our part in the Master’s gigantic plan. We Christians will be there to see all the awesome events for the future so, meanwhile, what sort of persons (2 Peter 3:11) ought we to be? God’s grace was shown to us through the preaching or witness of other people. We are indebted to be so in tune with God that His grace through us will be shown to people around us.
Our focus, trust and obedience must be correctly in line. If we concentrate on God and co-operate with God, we’ll enjoy the holy privilege of unbroken, loving companionship with the Almighty Persons of the Holy Trinity.
