Help me to see the exceeding sinfulness of my sin.
The desire of my heart is that nothing will be allowed to hinder the process of restoring the Divine Image in me -- that I will truly be conformed to the Image of God's dear Son -- that He will increase until it's all of Christ and none of me.
It seems that, in spite of my longing to be like Jesus, evidences of the flesh appear quite often.
As I knelt in prayer that particular morning, I asked the Lord again to help me to see the exceeding sinfulness of my sin.
Almost immediately God spoke to me and this is what He said.
You don't realize how really dirty dirt is by concentrating on dirt. If you stare at a filthy mud
puddle, always and only at that mud puddle, eventually you'll get used to it and it won't look so bad. You need to focus on something totally clean and the awful contrast will expose the disgusting truth about dirt.
You don't realize the deep sinfulness of sin by fretting over it and/or constantly dwelling on it. You need to focus on the ONE Who is absolutely holy and the awful contrast will expose the appalling truth about sin
