I joined the circle with only about a dozen others; we had gathered to pray. I listened to the heartfelt prayers being offered for the darkest places and most dangerous strongholds on the planet. As I thrilled to the audacity of humble believers approaching the Throne Room of the Most High Sovereign God with phenomenal requests, the Lord gave me a special thought.
Prayer is God's gift to us of a purse filled with money; money in a currency which is negotiable in every place on the globe and even beyond to the heavenlies. Prayer is simply spending the money for the specific needs on our hearts but as we spend, we make a startling discovery. The purse is bulging with treasure which is never depleted but only increases more and more as we continue to spend. During the time we spend in the secret place with God, we learn many vital lessons. We learn that He will truly give us the desires of our hearts; not everything we think we want but our actual desires will be God-given and then, of course, we can have anything we want without limit. We learn that as the Holy Spirit unites our God-given desires with the purposes of the Almighty and we pray His will into reality, the Lord not only includes us but also rewards us for the things we could never do, things He will surely accomplish with or without us. We learn that because God is present everywhere, the prayer of faith is effective everywhere. We learn that neither time nor distance nor enemy can negate the purchasing power of this coin of the realm. We learn that heart-faith in the Father is being deepened, as is our communion with the risen Christ. We learn that we can hear the laughter of God and exult as lives are transformed, as strongholds are demolished, as Light overcomes darkness, as bonds are broken and curtains are shredded.
Such a small group; a mere handful; and yet ... power-packed with eternal significance!
Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I AM the Lord, the God of all mankind; is there anything too hard for Me?
In response to this established, sovereign fact, in all matters and circumstances, faith-filled prayer is the only thing that makes sense. I wonder ... why do we not open the purse wider and more often to change our desires, our character, our families and our world?
