Promise

For God so loved the world .....

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination and intention of all human thinking was only evil continually (Genesis 6:5).

God destroyed every living thing on the face of the earth; only Noah, who was in right standing with God, and those with him in the ark remained alive (Genesis 7:1,23).

A new beginning, a new world, a rainbow of promise (Genesis 9:13-17). But all history records that righteousness was short-lived on the earth and everyone did that which pleased himself (Judges 21:25).

And all creation, condemned to futility and frustration, groaned in longing for redemption which seemed unlikely, even impossible.

The use of paternity tests is common knowledge. We all know they are blood tests used to determine who is the physical father of a particular child.

Long ago there was a BABY born in a manger in Bethlehem, a BABY Who had no human father. What special marks would a test of His Blood have revealed? Here is wonder ..... Almighty God created one time only, a rich, royal Blood, a Blood of covenant promise for this BABY, the Son of God.

This untainted, holy, human Blood was deposited in Jesus so that He could invest it in the sin-cursed world, which God so loved.

As Jesus writhed in agony on the Cross, His rich, royal, covenant Blood poured out; dripping into the earth, and every drop a promise.

Now all creation still groans but no longer with futile longing. Now all creation waits expectantly (Romans 8:19) because the Blood poured out on the ground was the Blood of covenant promise.

As we glory in the precious Blood of Jesus, our communion services and our often meditation should be thrilling times of remembering and anticipating.
