God put a thought into my mind early this morning. It was something I had never thought of or heard of in all my life. It was like a seed and I wasn’t sure of how it would grow. Bear with me as I share my thoughts with you.
There is only One God and I would be willing to die for that truth. He is not one of the many gods of multiple religions. He is the One and Only God – the Sovereign Ruler of the universe, the Creator of everything that exists whether visible or invisible. This we know absolutely but consider this. If Jehovah existed in only One Almighty Person, redemption and salvation would be impossible. He would have to abdicate His position as Sovereign Ruler and controller of this world - - He would have to deliberately set aside all His attributes of Deity and clothe Himself in frail humanity in order to be able to die for sinful mankind. While He was doing that on earth, there would be nobody in heaven to rule (Daniel 4:26) or to bring the counsel of the nations (Psalms 33:10:11) to nothing and etc.- etc. That would mean irrevocable chaos.
So, in order to prevent chaos and in order to protect us from universal doom and damnation – we can see the need for a Second fully-God Person. He would have to be God to plan what He planned in order to become MAN to do what He did as MAN. He clothed Himself with humanity – but – that poses a problem. All humans came from Adam which means that when we arrived on Planet Earth we were physically alive but spiritually dead (1 Corinthians 15:22) because we inherited a sin nature from Adam. Just as in the temporary sacrifice of animals – each animal had to be unblemished and perfect - - so a human sacrifice for guilty humans would have to be sinless and perfect. Was this a dead-end? No, everything was arranged eons in advance. The Saviour would be totally human but He would not come from Adam -- He would be born (Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 7:14, Luke 1:27-31) of a virgin! Every one of previous animal sacrifices was an I.O.U. which God would accept until there was “money in the bank.” Where was that deposit made? Behold the Lamb of God (John 1:29) Who takes away the sin of the world. Jesus didn’t offer Himself in order to make bad people good – He came to make dead people alive. Multiple “good works” (Ephesians 2:8-9) could never do that. He didn’t patch up the old, He actually (2 Corinthians 5:17) made us new creations. God has given us eternal life and this life is only available through His Son. Whoever has the Son has life (1 John 5:11-12) whoever does not have the Son does not have life.
After His Resurrection Jesus returned to heaven to prepare a place there for us (JN.14:2-3) so that we would be with Him forever. WOW! How glad and thankful we are that there was a Second Person.
But wait – stop and think – we don’t go straight to heaven the instant we put our faith in the Lord Jesus. We have many years on earth. Are we on our own? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Third fully-God Person Who could be with us always in this wicked world? Good news! Thrilling news! There is just such a Person Who is fully God.
Listen to Jesus (John 14:16-17,26) and His promise to send the Holy Spirit not only to be our Comforter, Teacher and Guide but to be with us and actually indwell us forever. Ten days after His ascension Jesus fulfilled (Acts 2:4) His promise. I could not begin to list the many ways the Holy Spirit lavishes on us all we need. By Him we are sealed until (Ephesians 4:30) the day of redemption, the day of our completed salvation. We are commanded to be continually (Ephesians 5:18) being filled with the Spirit. If we live/walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25) we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh but we will (Romans 8:4) be enabled to live in the requirements of the Law of Christ. We don’t know how to pray as we ought (Romans 8:26) so the wonderful Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. Always on guard for us He warns (1 Timothy 4:1) against seducing spirits that pervert the Gospel. My most joyous times are conversations with the Holy Spirit as He takes me deeper into God’s Word and makes Jesus increasingly more real and precious.
Would you want to live in this world if we didn’t have the assurance that there is the Holy Trinity? As Dr. Tozer said - - what amazing privilege that we can explore the sacred wonders of the Triune Godhead. The Scriptures can tell us much more about the Person of the Godhead – the wonder, beauty, glory and beyond majesties by one magnificent God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - - Who have no beginning and no ending.
Do we begin to grasp the awesome privilege we have – the unpayable debt we owe and the surpassing sweetness of ever-deepening fellowship we have with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each ONE is always ready to welcome us and envelop us in AGAPE love.
