Forget

Can God forget?

While getting ready to go out, I was mulling over thoughts about the forgiveness of sin.  I thought about: Micah 7:19 - You will cast all our sins in the depths of the sea.  Jeremiah 31:34 - I will remember their sin no more.  Colossians 2:14 - Blotted out the legal decrees in force against us.

My mind struggled to grasp the concept of God forgetting, of God not remembering.  God is not a computer.  His mind is not a screen which can be erased.  Can the Sovereign Omniscient God really forget?  If He can, should I be worried that He might sometime forget me?  My thoughts ran on in this vein when suddenly, clearly and distinctly, this sentence penetrated my mind.  "The sea of God's forgetfulness is a river of Blood."

I tried to probe deeper into the marvellous work of Christ which rushes me into a right relationship and eternal covenant with God, and the impregnable safety of justification.  Justification ... justified ... there is another One, the only acceptable One, Who became my sin-bearer and took my sin upon Himself; and I stand just as if I had never sinned.  As Dr.Tozer said, "It began in His wounds and ended in our purification!  It began in His bruising and ended in our cleansing!"

The Holy Spirit whispers --  Kneel at the Cross and understand.  The sea of God's forgetfulness is a river of Blood.  Because Jesus took my sin and made it His own, it is as if I had no sin.  It is not that God forgets but that, in assessing me,

     HE HAS NOTHING TO REMEMBER!

There is, therefore, no condemnation.

  My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought,

  My sin, not in part, but the whole

  Is nailed to His Cross and I bear it no more;

  Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, 0 my soul!

Of course this grand old truth is not new to us but I wonder if I even begin to comprehend the stupendous Atonement of the Lord Jesus.  Oh the wonder ... the wonder that the Lamb Who was wounded should turn His wounds into the cleansing and forgiveness of those who wounded Him!

Through the salvation of Jesus Christ we are made perfectly fit for God.  WOW!

We do well to meditate on the big truths of God.
