My husband called me and at first I was startled by his words. I heard him say, "Awesome, awesome, it is awesome; she kissed the feet of God!" Then we began to talk and to worship together.
She was described as a woman of the town, an especially wicked sinner (Luke 7:37). But Jesus did not despise her; He loved her. It was not the high and mighty, not the know-it-all big-shots who bowed at His feet. Haughty Simon, in his contemptuous pride, (Luke 7:39) did not know WHO sat at his table. But a sinful woman recognized HIM. This was the same God before Whom the people trembled as Mount Sinai quaked greatly and was wrapped in smoke (Exodus 19:17). Their panic made them beg Moses to speak to them but to not let this terrifying God speak to them (Exodus 20:19).
This same God ... and a sinner kissed His feet. We contemplated, meditated with words, tears, silences and worship. The same God Who now indwells us. Are there words to describe the love and compassion in the eyes of Jesus as He looks on anyone who will draw near? He does not turn away from the dirty or diseased. He responds to the cry of the blind man, which others try to stifle. He does not recoil from the vile or reject the discouraged one who has failed so often. Look at Him! Look at Him! Look at Him!
God knows we cannot of ourselves live the Christian life. That's why He gave us the very Life of Christ Himself (Ephesians 2:5). He knows the deepest yearnings of our hearts and longs to fill every aching abyss with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19).
Because we were destined, yes - you and I, destined to live for the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:12).
Oh, sweet mystery! This terrifying God ... this gentle, loving Jesus. Come; come with me to the feet of Jesus and let us worship.
How awesome ... she kissed the feet of God!
With love and prayers,
