FAMINE FOR THE WORD OF GOD
(Amos 8:11) Neglect of God's Word makes us increasingly insensitive to sin. Desire for God's Word decreases and this lack of desire can become part of His judgment leading to famine of His Word and the darkening of our spiritual understanding.
(Luke 11:35) Be careful that the light that is in you be not darkness.
Light obeyed guarantees more light. Light disobeyed becomes darkness. Apart from the Word of God our spiritual understanding is darkened and we become confused about the things we once clearly understood, things which formerly caused us to rejoice in the victory of Resurrection Life.
This famine of the Word of God is not recent; it is slow, insidious, pervasive and causes the loss of spiritual understanding. It is why churches and denominations which once were strongly evangelical have compromised their beliefs. They removed from their hymn books every song which mentioned the Blood of Christ and watered down the Word until now they tolerate everything and stand for nothing.
Messages from the best pulpits are often interspersed with long excerpts from books and even clips from movies. Some churches have what are called "seeker-friendly" services and in these particular services they do not mention the Name of Jesus in case it offends some seeker!
All of this is insanity. It is much worse and far more dangerous than darkness; it is the horror of light that has become darkness and the consequences are terrifying. It is famine for the word of God and we are doing it to ourselves.
(Revelation chapters 2 & 3) He who is able to hear, let him hear and heed what the HOLY SPIRIT is saying to the churches. He has a direct and specific message for us if only we will listen.
